Real Estate Agents Get Nervous Too!

We counsel, hold hands, coach, and carefully advise our clients, as they navigate their way through one of lives biggest decisions—home ownership.  We know all the right things to say, and not because we’re quick thinkers (well we are!), but because we’ve worked so closely with many new homebuyers.  We’ve by extension experienced the highs, lows, anticipation, frustration, and sometimes blatant annoyance that often accompanies the very rewarding journey to home ownership.

Ironically, you’d think that when it comes to buying a home for ourselves, we real estate agents would have it in the bag!  Armed with so much knowledge, our decisions should be calculated, intentional, and emotionless—right?  Nope. Hardly. In our dreams maybe.

Home buying is nerve racking.  After spending the last 3 months actively searching for the perfect home, my ups and downs were a plenty.  I found a bright cape cod home for sale and while I debated whether or not it was the right home for me it went under contract.  I often felt like Goldilocks wasting time looking at homes that were too small, too much work, or too much money.  I realized no one is immune to the home buying rollercoaster.

And that’s not all, I also spent time:

  • Worrying that after putting together a super strong well-crafted offer, this darn sellers’ market might still result in being outbid…. and what a way to live life.
  • Wondering is this REALLY the house I want to wake up in for the next 5 years? Now don’t get me wrong, the rationale side of my brain is fully aware that I could move-out and rent anytime it if need-be, but ––well that’s not the point, and let’s be honest there are a million other external variables I’d deal with as a landlord.
  • Not being able to concentrate on anything else in life, because somewhere along the way finding the right house became an obsession. Not to mention my Pinterest addiction, as I proactively designed every home I considered putting a bid on, reached new highs, and officially beat out reigning addictions coffee and Facebook.
  • Second-guessing every decision. Do I know enough? Could my estimates be incorrect?  Maybe I overlooked something?  It’s as if subconsciously there’s a desire to remain small, and avoid embracing the negotiating bad-ass capabilities I’ve spent years cultivating and absolutely possess!

Now, 3 months and several rollercoasters later, I’ve found my hidden gem, and it feels so darn good!  I’ve learned there is no such thing as perfect, in life or in real estate, but when a home feels good, you just gotta for it!  Below we’ll leave you with some quotes that really resonated with us throughout the course of our home buying journey:

“You may not always end up where you thought you were going, but you will always end up where you were meant to be.” – Jessica Taylor

“I do not regret the things I’ve done, but those I did not do.” – Cochrane

“Even if I made decisions that I regret, I took them as learning experiences… I’m human, not perfect, like anybody else.” – Queen Latifah
